I said this in the 'nth time, "Hello, Manila. I'm here again." Livin' in Manila wasn't easy, especially comparing the laid-back life in the province-city. Most people who lived here for years say it's all about adjusting. For me, the sinus-punishing air of the city was the worst. And then, the crowd of people, heavy traffic, humidity and the heat. But, every place has its own wonders. This place is historically rich, and that makes it one fascinating visit. While I was looking for a travel guide to Intramuros, I read one comment about visiting Manila. The poster advised that Intramuros was the only place worth visiting in the city. Therefore, after that, get out of the city and enjoy better sights. As a non-fan of Mall Tourism/Tourism Shopping, I do agree to this.
I followed the Travel guide from wikiTravel which was very helpful. The visit was low-income, non-splurge. The trip was done mostly by walking, which by itself was already the tour. I printed the map from that wiki guide then realized that it wasn't totally detailed and Google Maps could help a lot too (which I regret for having not brought my tablet).
Anyway, here's my shots for this visit.
Manila Cathedral was unfortunately closed due to renovation during our visit so we only had a good look from the outside. Still, looking from afar, the church is beautiful and worth appreciating.
San Agustin Church was the most beautiful church I've ever seen at this moment. The site was included in the World Heritage List making it really worth visiting.
As planned, we were supposed to visit Fort Santiago, but we made it there at lunchtime and decided not to go anymore. We just made a peek from the gates. LOLs. We saved 75 pesos for the entrance fee. There's a nice building in front of Fort Santiago, so I took a shot.
After Intramuros, we visited another church, the Minor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz. We just walked from Intramuros to Binondo, yes that was a looong walk. =)
We walked around the streets of Divisoria, went to 168 Mall, and we bought some fruits. Anyway, we didn't take long because I hate overcrowded places and I really have nothing in mind to buy.
Then, we took a jeep to Rizal Park. We also checked China Park which was not well maintained but since it's next to Rizal's, we took the time to check it out anyway.
I'm going to visit again when I have a bit more time and budget.
